Official Statement from the People’s Rights Advocacy Platform (PRAP)
On the Abduction of Rev. Brother Huub Walters and Mr. Achoh Henry Kang
The People’s Rights Advocacy Platform (PRAP) strongly condemns the abduction of Rev. Brother Huub Walters, a Mill Hill Missionary, and his assistant Mr. Achoh Henry Kang by armed separatist fighters in Bambui, Tubah Subdivision, Mezam Division.
Rev. Brother Huub Walters is a respected humanitarian who has dedicated over fifty-four years of his life in service to the people of Cameroon. His legacy of compassion, development, and peace is etched in the hearts of countless communities across our territory. To see such a man—who has given his life to helping others—held against his will is an unspeakable violation of our shared humanity.
This act is morally reprehensible and stands in direct contradiction to the values PRAP defends: the protection of human dignity, the rule of law, and the right of all persons to live free from fear and violence.
We are particularly disturbed that Mr. Achoh Henry Kang, a man who has already endured multiple kidnappings during this conflict, has once again been victimized—this time alongside his spiritual leader and partner in humanitarian service. These acts cannot and must not be accepted as part of any legitimate political cause.
Let it be clearly understood: kidnapping religious leaders and humanitarian workers is not a revolutionary act. It is a crime. Those who claim to fight for justice cannot do so by terrorizing the very people they claim to protect.
PRAP calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Rev. Brother Huub Walters and Mr. Achoh Henry Kang. We urge all community leaders, civil society actors, and religious institutions to join us in condemning this action and calling for their safe return.
To the family of Mr. Achoh and the Catholic community in Boyo and beyond, please know that PRAP stands with you in solidarity and prayer. We share your pain, and we will continue to use every platform available to advocate for justice and the protection of all civilians in this conflict.
We must now more than ever reaffirm our commitment to non-violence, peaceful resolution, and the restoration of dignity to all those affected by this crisis.
Enough is enough.
