The Southern Cameroon population , once united by the dream of independence, now finds itself trapped in a harsh reality.
The Ambazonian struggle, once a symbol of hope and liberation, has degenerated into chaos and lawlessness.
Fighters who were meant to protect their communities have become oppressors, while leaders in the diaspora remain silent in the face of growing atrocities and some who seeks relevance try to justify the unjustifiable atrocities committed against our civilians by hullums.Â
Instead of focusing their efforts on fighting for independence, Ambazonian fighters are now primarily turning their weapons on their own people.
This shift comes as they realize that independence is unattainable through violence and through the groups they represent .
To maintain control, they resort to intimidation and senseless violence, holding the population hostage to their mindset .
The recent killing of this woman behind PMI illustrates this grim reality.
Reports indicate that Ambazonian fighters, after taking petrol from her without paying, began shooting indiscriminately, resulting in her death.
This tragedy is not an isolated incident.
Since the beginning of this year 2025, six civilians have been killed by Ambazonian fighters, alongside several high-profile kidnappings.
These acts are no longer about resistance; they are crimes against the very population the fighters claim to represent.
The people in Ground Zero are now living under siege not from the Cameroonian military, but mainly from those who claim to fight for their liberation.
Indiscriminate Killings of civilians, such as the woman near PMI, has become an all-too-common occurrence.
Kidnappings and Extortion by Fighters increasingly target civilians for ransom, using fear to fund their unsatisfying greed is the order of the day.
Small businesses and livelihoods are being destroyed, plunging families into poverty and despair.
The fighters’ actions betray the core values of the struggle and have eroded the trust and support of the people.
Communities that once welcomed the movement now see it as a threat to their safety and well-being.
The Diaspora Leadership is an accomplice to this turn of events.
While the situation deteriorates on the ground, Ambazonian leaders in the diaspora remain silent, failing to condemn or address the atrocities committed by the fighters.
This silence underscores their detachment from the reality faced by the population.
By ignoring the violence, diaspora leaders show a lack of accountability and moral courage.
There is a general Strategic Stagnation in the camp of “until the last man standing “ , Instead of adapting to the changing dynamics, they cling to a failed strategy, perpetuating the suffering of the people.
The Ambazonian population is now hostage to a struggle that no longer serves them.
Fighters have abandoned their original mission, instead using violence and intimidation to maintain control.
The concept of independence, once a beacon of hope, has become a tool of oppression.
Independence through violence has proven unattainable, yet fighters and leaders refuse to explore alternatives.
Fear is now a Weapon , Intimidation and brutality are used to suppress dissent and keep the population subdued.
A Call for Change
The current trajectory of the Ambazonian struggle is unsustainable.
To end the suffering of the population and restore credibility to the movement, immediate action is needed:
1. Condemn and Address Atrocities: Fighters who harm civilians must be held accountable, and the movement must distance itself from rogue elements.
2. Reassess Strategy: Leaders must accept that violence has failed as a means to achieve independence and seek alternative approaches.
3. Empower Communities: The struggle must refocus on protecting and uplifting the people, prioritizing their safety and well-being.
4. Diaspora Accountability: Leaders in the diaspora must take responsibility for their role in enabling abuses and work to enforce discipline among fighters.
5. JOIN THE APJ AND THE PPP , we must Engage International Mediators , Neutral actors must be invited to facilitate dialogue and provide humanitarian support to affected communities.
The killing of the woman behind PMI, the six civilian deaths, and the ongoing kidnappings are stark reminders of how far the Ambazonian struggle has strayed from its original purpose.
Fighters, instead of liberating their people, have become their oppressors, while leaders fail to address the growing crisis.
If the movement is to regain the trust of the population, it must break free from its violent and oppressive tactics.
The struggle for independence must evolve to prioritize the lives and dignity of the people it claims to represent.
Only through accountability, adaptation, and a renewed focus on the population’s well-being can the Ambazonian movement reclaim its original vision of justice and freedom.
